gef0rce
Hi I have tried enabling dot1q vlans on the unraid system and trunked the vlans to my network switch. However when I assign a VM to the vlan I cannot ping any ip on that vlan. Has anyone been able to setup vms (eth1 , "br1.20") and assigning to vlans . Is there anything special i need to do on the unraid host apart from network config. Regards Quote Link to comment
bonienl
From where are you trying to ping? If this is a different network, you will need to add routing to the VM (needs to be done via CLI). Quote Link to comment
gef0rce
hi bonienl I am pinging from the VM to the default gateway which is on the same subnet so there is no routing on layer 2 switching. This is my idea , I have two network cards on my unraid system , eth0 is for my lan. And eth1 is plugged directly on my LAB switch. The link between my lab switch and unraid (eth1) is trunked and only vlan 20 is allowed from my switch side. On unraid I added vlan 20 to eth1 by using the network settings page. Unraid then created an interface called "br1.20" . I assigned br1.20 to my VM and on the switch I have an ip that belongs to vlan 20. So they are on the same vlan. When i try pinging from the PC to Switch or vice versa I cannot reach. Is there something additional that is required on unraid to make dot1q tags work? Quote Link to comment
gef0rce
Hi Just update , I managed to resolve the issue. My switch had the port i linked to unraid in a bridge and I had to disable it. It works now. Regards Quote Link to comment
