February 1, 20179 yr Hi Everyone! I'm having an issue with my unraid server 6.2.4. Installed dockers are deluge, Couchpotato, SickRage, plex, and openvpn. Every so often, the server becomes completely unresponsive. The webGUI doesn't respond, and can't SSH in. When it's unresponsive the console still shows a blinking cursor, but when you send a command that just hangs too. In the logs I found out of memory errors with Plex Media Scan, and fix common problems is showing out of memory errors and 'call traces'. https://screenshot.click/01-20-9fyqx-mjlmo.png Not quite sure where to start to troubleshoot this one, it's happened 5 or 6 times now. I tried removing the plex docker and all app data and setting it all up again, but the problem persists. Attached my diagnostic zip Thanks so much!!! tower-diagnostics-20170201-1503.zip
February 1, 20179 yr You are literally running out of RAM. Have a look in your BIOS and see how much you have reserved for your Radeon integrated GPU. Set it to the minimum possible - that's all the unRAID console needs. Your diagnostics show 7460 MB available to unRAID so there seems to be a lot being reserved. With the exception of Plex, I don't run any of the Dockers that you run so I don't know how much memory they typically need. You could try not running one or two for a while and see if you stop getting OOMs. You might want to consider adding more RAM.
February 2, 20179 yr Author Ah ok, thanks! I disabled that in BIOS and I'm now showing 7.965 GB of 8 GB is available to unRaid. Should the Plex Media Scanner really be taking up so much memory that it's getting killed off? I don't know how much couchpotato and sickrage use, but I don't think it's much. Plex is the one that's getting killed off, and I thought you could run Plex on a bare bones system with low memory no issue. I know 8 GB isn't tons but I guess I just didn't expect I'd have to upgrade for a while, considering all I do is download and stream with it
February 2, 20179 yr Ah ok, thanks! I disabled that in BIOS and I'm now showing 7.965 GB of 8 GB is available to unRaid. I wouldn't completely disable it - you might want to plug a monitor in again one day. Just reduce it to the minimum - 32 MB or whatever. Should the Plex Media Scanner really be taking up so much memory that it's getting killed off? No, but Plex Media Scanner runs intermittently after the other apps have taken up their chunk of memory and tips the system over the edge, is my guess. I don't know how much couchpotato and sickrage use, but I don't think it's much. No idea. I don't use them. Plex is the one that's getting killed off, and I thought you could run Plex on a bare bones system with low memory no issue. See above. Is it any better now you've released the GPU memory? Remember that unRAID doesn't use virtual memory.
February 10, 20179 yr Author Ok, so the server actually went about a week with no issue, but now I'm getting Out of Memory errors in Fix Common Problems again. I'm also getting errors that my syslog is super large. I checked the log, and it looks like it's all Plex errors. I've attached my diagnostics, I just can't tell what it's doing and what those errors are. I'm hoping theres a setting I can disable in Plex to just get it to stop doing whatever is causing the error, I just don't know where to start looking. Any help is much appreciated tower-diagnostics-20170209-2014.zip
February 10, 20179 yr It's more of the same, I'm afraid. Version 6.3.0 of unRAID had problems and was short-lived. You're strongly recommended to upgrade to 6.3.1. Your syslog is big because the mover has had a busy time moving all your appdata from your cache to your array and every file is logged. You'll probably want to move it back again by setting your appdata share to "Use cache disk: Prefer" and running the mover.
