March 11, 20179 yr I have a server setup and have Plex running on it. It has media, and I can access and watch it through Plex apps on my local network. I'm logged in with my PlexPass account info in the Plex Media Server, and am trying to get Remote working. On my old PMS running on my Mac, I had it working, with the 32400 port forwarded on my router and my family was able to watch my media. I've turned off the old PMS and updated the router to now be forwarding 32400 for my server's IP address, but when I try turning on Remote with that port, it thinks about it and flashes that it's accessible for a second, then it says its not available outside of my network... And when I try to connect to it from my phone over LTE, it tries connecting, but then says Direct Connection unavailable. Do I need to do something for UnRaid to see that the port has been forwarded? Also, is that not safe? In my googling around to try and find an answer, I;ve seen people saying it's unsafe to forward ports to UnRaid? Is it any less secure than when I was doing it for my local Mac version of PMS? I should add as well that when doing the remote access from my Mac PMS, it also says its not available outside my network, but I can still connect to it over LTE and watch stuff. March 11, 20179 yr Are you running plex as a plugin or a docker? Whose version of Plex are you using? On my plex docker, under settings, server, remote access it shows the internal private IP of my server and the port then it shows my external IP address and the port, below that you have the option to set it to the same port as it is internally, the default being 32400. Is that what you have? Exposing any port always carries risk, in this case its mitigated by the fact that you are exposing a port to a docker and access is restricted to those you give permission to. I've yet to hear of a vulnerability to plex over the default port and if there was one I am sure they would patch it pretty quick.
March 11, 20179 yr Author I am using a docker, and I think I'm just using the built in version? When I go to the WebUI and then Settings, Server, Remote Access and enable remote, it shows my internal, external and manually specify port all using 32400. This is also what my Mac PMS is setup like, and I originally thought it wasn't working because I had both running at the same time (I'm just getting the UnRaid box setup and things transferred over and figured out). I tried turning off the Mac PMS and modifying the forwarded port on my router to be using my server's IP address instead, but not luck...

Well if you had the Mac PMS and unRAID Plex Docker running at the same time and both configured to use the default port 32400 you'll run into problems. So when you turned off the Mac PMS and modified the forwarded port 32400 to your unRAID IP, did you restart the PLEX Docker? I had a similar issue running a Plex Docker and Plex on a nvidia shield tv, Remote wouldn't work on either. I turned one off and then the other and like yourself Remote still wouldn't work. It was only when I rebooted the PLEX docker that Remote started working. I now have both working but I had to change the default port on my shield and port forward the new port to it...
