best way to get a static ip with unraid

Featured Replies

i am looking to run a few servers from home and i was wondering what is the best way to get a static ip with my home ip address being dynamic. thanks, prez

Personally I prefer to set the static IP address of my server in my router (by specifying MAC address usually) and then set all clients to DHCP. Easy Peasy.

I clearly didn't read your post. Sorry.

What I think you need is dynamic dns service. There are a number of Apps (aka containers) that will manage this for you once you have signed up.

A good one is here:

Yeah, sorry. I re-read (well read once) and amended my reply.

Essentially a Dynamic DNS service (Like Duck DNS) is usually a free service which will point a DNS (sub domains of duckdns.org) to an IP address of your choice. What the container will do is maintain the currency of the IP address (ie if/when it changes) with the service provider you choose so you can always access your server from the DNS you choose without having to manually manage it.
