User Share + User Level Security = Not Accessible

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone,

I am running into a rather odd issue that I am pulling my hair to figure out.  I am trying to connect to a User Share that I have created and am not able to gain access.  I am using a fresh installation of unRAID 4.5.3 Pro (only addon I am using is unMENU - which is fantastic by the way).  The steps I performed are the following (pretty standard from what I have read in the forum/wiki).

1.)  I have enabled User Shares and User Level Security (Disk Shares = Export Read/Write).

2.)  I have created a new user - "User01" with a password.  (The same username/password combination that I am logged in as on my laptop).

3.)  I have created a User Share "Movies" (Allocation method = High Water, Export (SMB) = Read/Write, Valid Users = "User01")

When I browse the network/server I see the Disk Share (disk1 - which is accessible) as well as the "Movies" User Share.  When I attempt to access the User Share "Movies" I receive the Windows' standard login popup.  However, when I enter username "User01" and the corresponding password, I am not able to gain access.  The login popup refreshes and both fields are blank.

I have deleted/added the share, deleted/added the user as well as stop/started/reloaded Samba (using unMENU and Command line) as well as rebooted the server several times.  According to everything that I have read - this should be working just fine.  Is there anything that I am overlooking?

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

On the unRAID settings page set the workgroup to the same workgroup as you laptop.  If you are not in a workgroup set it to the computer name of your laptop.

Hi pfp - Thanks for your suggestion.  However, that's what's making me pull my hair out :-\.  I have configured both my laptop as well as unRAID to use the same workgroup - and still no luck.  I have no problems with my Ubuntu/Samba server - just with unRAID.

Perhaps workgroup and/or username is case sensitive?

Thanks for the suggestion!

I re-entered the Workgroup (e.g. "workgroup" and "WORKGROUP") - but no luck.  This is definitely a "head scratcher."

I also tried something else - added "root" to the Valid User setting and was able to connect (witout a password for User01).

I'm not 100% certain, but I believe the network card on my workstation may have been misbehaving.  After rebooting, and re-installing the drivers I am now able to browser User Shares.  Thanks again pfp for your assistance!
