March 23, 20179 yr Looking to convert my current system from reinfrs to xfs. I have looked at http://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php/File_System_Conversion but feel it's more complicated than what I need. i currently have an empty XFS drive large enough to house the data from another drive. im curious, what's wrong with moving data to the empty XFS, reformat the newly empty drive and rinse and repeat?

Nothing wrong with that, really, that's basically how I did it: Copy data to empty disk, verify checksums, format old disk, rinse, repeat...
March 23, 20179 yr Community Expert Remember that you have to do a disk-to-disk copy. You can't involve the user shares in the copy! (This is a precautionary warning as you may be already aware of it.) You also have to make sure that nothing is writing to the array at the time of the copy or you could miss some newly written/updated files.
