March 28, 20179 yr Hi, I have a problem with file permissions where when i try to delete files it says access denied and that i need permission from TOWER/nobody. TOWER being the name I gave the server. This happens for files and folders on the cache drive and for file/folders which have been handled by the plugins CouchPotato, SickRage and Transmissions. This has been a problem for a while but hasn't really caused any issues so I have left it for a long time, but figure I really should do something about it. I am running unraid 6.2.4. CouchPotato, SickRage and Transmissions are all run as user nobody. I think a few years ago i ran the New Permissions tool, and am thinking of running it again to see if it helps, but i am not sure if this is the right thing to try or not. Would appreciate any advise. David
March 28, 20179 yr The default permissions that CP, Sick et al set aren't proper. Within the programs, there's options set set permissions. You want it to be 0777 You really shouldn't run the new permissions tool, as it may muck up the operation of your programs. Install Fix Common Problems plugin, then within it set excluded shares to not touch any of the program files (aka appdata) for those plugins. Then under the tools menu, run Docker Safe New Permissions
March 28, 20179 yr +1 for me too. Some what simulair situation.I have permission issues with windows 7 Ultimate and I am looking for a way to strip all permissions before backing up all of it so access is no longer a problem, and nore could/will it become a problem.I am looking for a tool that can strip (windows) access permissions so I can copy files to an external drive and not run into trouble when accessing them in the future. No PassWord installed, only @ boot on admin account I use ti login on/with.(@Moderator, please move request if need be, but aend me a email notification when you do, TY!)Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk

I would say your situation isn't really very similar, and in general you should get support in your own thread. Ordinarily, you shouldn't need a tool, you just need to have things configured properly. If something doesn't currently have correct permissions, then you could fix them as Squid says above: 43 minutes ago, Squid said: Install Fix Common Problems plugin, then within it set excluded shares to not touch any of the program files (aka appdata) for those plugins. Then under the tools menu, run Docker Safe New Permissions and figure out what is creating files in such a way that you have access problems so it doesn't continue to happen. If you need more help, start your own thread and go to Tools - Diagnostics and attach the complete zip to your first post of that thread.
March 30, 20179 yr Author Sorry for taking to long to reply, only just go a chance to have another look at the server. I also removed several of my plugins and am using the apps through the docker now, which I am really liking. Basically fixing this problem prompted me to update and overhaul the server and now it is working brilliantly, very impressed with what v6 can do now, i hadn't take the time previously to find out what the upgrade to v6 added. I have been running this same unraid machine since 2012 and rarely have any problems with it, but when I do this forum always helps me fix them. Thanks alot guys
