April 5, 20179 yr I have 2 unraid servers on the same network. one is called Pipe and the other is called Tower. For some reason when i start up Pipe server it grabs the network name Pipe and also Tower - when i ping either pipe or tower i get the same ip address of 192.168.1.143. Under settings/Identification one is PIPE and the other was Tower. When i ping tower it comes back tower.lan in the windows command prompt. When i ping Pipe i get pipe (without the .lan) and both give me the same IP address. Settings/Network for Tower is no bonding, no bridging, automatic IP address assignment, ip address is 192.168.1.154, dns server assignment is automatic. Settings/Network for Pipe is same but ip address is 192.168.1.143. For the purposes of figuring what the master browser is and troubleshooting i have done the following. Renamed Tower to Flower, installed plugin Dynamix Local Master and used it to set flower as the master browser. I also installed same plugin on Pipe and it shows Flower as the master browser. One small note is that Dynamix calls the master browser FLOWER (all caps) and i have named it under identification settings as Flower. In the past I have used the box that is Pipe and is not supposed to be stealing the tower name as tower. (ie i have just plugged in the usb stick and ran it off that box, i switch them around occasionally- usually when troubleshooting problems and trying to eliminate hardware). One other note is that I do use my router to reserve the address 192.168.1.143 for Pipe, but not for tower. For some reason It crashed everything on my network when i set dhcp to be reserved by router for Tower at 192.168.1.154. - Any ideas why that would happen? Anyhow i have been pulling my hair out on this and in addition i am now having permission problems for samba shares which i will post as a separate question. I have run Now looking at my logs i see a ton of input output errors on Flower - indicating some serious problems with Flower. also callback trace issue I will post a separate question with diagnostics on that. April 6, 20179 yr Author There is a possibility this could be the problem. I have used a 2nd router with dhcp disabled for years to expand my wifi to my 2nd house. It is possible that there is a residual address reservation, just for this Tower/Flower Mac address. I will check that out tomorrow and post again. Thanks for the excellent troubleshooting suggestion. This has been driving me nuts!
