Update Failed Kernel Panic - Not Syncing

Featured Replies

I just did an up date of my plugins including unraid.  Everything seemed to go fine until I did the reboot after the unraid update.  I am getting the error: Kernel Panic - not syncing: attempted to kill init! exitcode=0x00000009

I have had unraid running for a little over a year with no problems.  I did not take not of the versions levels before I clicked on update.  I was probable on v5 because I don't believe I had the ability for dual parity.  When I tried to reboot in safe mode with no plugins I got a message about a recursive error and a reboot was needed.  Rebooting I still come back to the same issue.

How do I recover from this?

If you updated using the GUI you were on v6, try downgrading to v6.2.4, it's still on the download page, probably some compatibility issues with your hardware and the newer kernel, specially if you're using older hardware.

I downloaded the v6.2.4 version and copied files bzimage and bxroot.  system is back up and working.  Running parity check to ensure no data issues.

Now that I am at this level is it possible or safe to update to newer versions.  I am running an older repurposed server board.

Look for a bios update, or try again when v6.4 is released, some older server boards don't work well with v6.3, like some older Intel.

So there is no solution to this?

I had this issue when I upgraded and solved it by rolling back but I remember someone offering a possible solution but didn't try it then and decided to try upgrading again and now I can't find the suggestion.

I have the Intel S2600CP motherboard which I believe quite a few people bought during that inexpensive used E5 sale.

Did you try v6.3.5? Any release with a different kernel can work.
