June 18, 20179 yr Good day community, during the last week I did set up my first Unraid server. So far I encountered no problems that I couldn´t solve myself except one. I put in three 120GB Kingston SSDs as cache. I enabled cache in the settings, the system is showing those SSDs as cache, but it just won´t use them. Every time I copy files from my workstations onto the server they get written directly onto the array. I tried changing the needed free space for cache but without any effect. Below is my systemlog. Maybe I overlooked some simple setting. Thanks a lot Jun 18 14:15:21 avunraid emhttp: shcmd (359): /etc/rc.d/rc.libvirt start |& loggerJun 18 14:15:21 avunraid root: Starting virtlockd...Jun 18 14:15:21 avunraid root: Starting virtlogd...Jun 18 14:15:21 avunraid root: sed: can't read /etc/libvirt/qemu/*.xml: No such file or directoryJun 18 14:15:21 avunraid root: sed: can't read /etc/libvirt/qemu/*.xml: No such file or directoryJun 18 14:15:21 avunraid root: Starting libvirtd...Jun 18 14:15:21 avunraid kernel: tun: Universal TUN/TAP device driver, 1.6Jun 18 14:15:21 avunraid kernel: tun: (C) 1999-2004 Max Krasnyansky <[email protected]>Jun 18 14:15:21 avunraid emhttp: nothing to syncJun 18 14:15:21 avunraid kernel: Ebtables v2.0 registeredJun 18 14:15:21 avunraid kernel: virbr0: port 1(virbr0-nic) entered blocking stateJun 18 14:15:21 avunraid kernel: virbr0: port 1(virbr0-nic) entered disabled stateJun 18 14:15:21 avunraid kernel: device virbr0-nic entered promiscuous modeJun 18 14:15:22 avunraid avahi-daemon[3787]: Joining mDNS multicast group on interface virbr0.IPv4 with address 192.168.122.1.Jun 18 14:15:22 avunraid kernel: virbr0: port 1(virbr0-nic) entered blocking stateJun 18 14:15:22 avunraid kernel: virbr0: port 1(virbr0-nic) entered listening stateJun 18 14:15:22 avunraid avahi-daemon[3787]: New relevant interface virbr0.IPv4 for mDNS.Jun 18 14:15:22 avunraid avahi-daemon[3787]: Registering new address record for 192.168.122.1 on virbr0.IPv4.Jun 18 14:15:22 avunraid dnsmasq[7434]: started, version 2.76 cachesize 150Jun 18 14:15:22 avunraid dnsmasq[7434]: compile time options: IPv6 GNU-getopt no-DBus i18n IDN DHCP DHCPv6 no-Lua TFTP no-conntrack ipset auth no-DNSSEC loop-detect inotifyJun 18 14:15:22 avunraid dnsmasq-dhcp[7434]: DHCP, IP range 192.168.122.2 -- 192.168.122.254, lease time 1hJun 18 14:15:22 avunraid dnsmasq-dhcp[7434]: DHCP, sockets bound exclusively to interface virbr0Jun 18 14:15:22 avunraid dnsmasq[7434]: reading /etc/resolv.confJun 18 14:15:22 avunraid dnsmasq[7434]: using nameserver 192.168.2.1#53Jun 18 14:15:22 avunraid dnsmasq[7434]: read /etc/hosts - 2 addressesJun 18 14:15:22 avunraid dnsmasq[7434]: read /var/lib/libvirt/dnsmasq/default.addnhosts - 0 addressesJun 18 14:15:22 avunraid dnsmasq-dhcp[7434]: read /var/lib/libvirt/dnsmasq/default.hostsfileJun 18 14:15:22 avunraid kernel: virbr0: port 1(virbr0-nic) entered disabled stateJun 18 14:27:54 avunraid emhttp: shcmd (469): /usr/local/sbin/mover |& logger &Jun 18 14:27:54 avunraid root: mover startedJun 18 14:27:54 avunraid root: moving "system" to cacheJun 18 14:27:54 avunraid move: skipping file in-use: ./system/docker/docker.imgJun 18 14:27:54 avunraid root: .d..t...... ./Jun 18 14:27:54 avunraid move: rmdir: /mnt/disk1/./system/docker Directory not emptyJun 18 14:27:54 avunraid move: skipping file in-use: ./system/libvirt/libvirt.imgJun 18 14:27:54 avunraid move: rmdir: /mnt/disk1/./system/libvirt Directory not emptyJun 18 14:27:54 avunraid move: rmdir: /mnt/disk1/./system Directory not emptyJun 18 14:27:54 avunraid root: mover finished
June 18, 20179 yr Community Expert Each user share has its own setting for whether and how it uses cache. The default for any user shares you have created is for them to not use cache, so if you haven't set a user share to use cache, it won't.
June 18, 20179 yr Community Expert Also, since you added cache after you had already setup the system share, the system share is on disk1, but its files are in use and so can't be moved to cache. Go to Settings and stop VM and Docker services and then go to Main - Array Operation and do Move now. After it finishes, you can start VM and Docker again.
June 18, 20179 yr Community Expert Just now, Gonozal said: Thanks a lot. Did not know that. Cache works fine now. Make sure you understand the user share cache settings. Do not make the mistake of setting them to prefer unless that is really what you intend. Turn on Help to better understand the settings. Also, see here
