RTOuk
hi i was wondering if anyone had used one of this mobos? http://www.ebuyer.com/product/200893 it only has 2 sata ports onboard, but also has a pci-e x1 slot which i believe i could use to add 4 more ports?. im having a hard time finding a decent mitx mobo here in the uk Link to comment
Rajahal
I think 4 ports on a PCIe x1 will be a bit slow during parity checks. The most I would put on a PCIe x1 is 2 ports, if speed is of any concern. Link to comment
Kaygee
Try linitx their AM2 board has good potential - 4 sata and a pci-e x16 slot. J&W Minix 780-SP128MB. Jetway NC96-410-LF - 4 sata drives + PCI + a mini-PCIe Jetway J7F2 + 4 port addon card + PCI Zotac NM10-DTX - 6 sata but some people claim 4 extra ports are raid only so cant be used on unraid. Asus AT3IONT-I (Amazon have them in the uk) - 4 sata PCI-e x16. ZOTAC ION ITX G E Mini ITX DDR2 Motherboard (Novatech) 4 sata , mini pci express. Point of View NVIDIA ION - Amazon UK (4 sata) mini PCI express Lastly try importing a Supermicro X7SPA. Some of these boards have IDE slots which could be used with IDE/Sata adaptors to push up the available ports count, I have had mixed results with their success, some boards work fine others don't and long term reliability is an unknown. I think a proper 4 port PCI-e x1 card like a Highpoint 2300 would be OK on a low power board. However a 2300 would cost more than the difference in buying a 4 port board and a cheap SIL or Dell PCI-e card. What I'd do is step up the case to a R2 (Still beautiful but more bays and cheaper), look for a 6 or more port uITX board and a 80+ PSU. This will be cheaper and allow a couple more drives to be added when they are needed. Link to comment
