superderpbro
6.3.5 I am currently running a i3-4170 CPU and it's barely keeping up now that my family found out how to use PLEX. I figure, since Coffee Lake is all the rage, I might as well put the 6600k/MB/RAM from my main PC into my unRAID box. Good excuse to buy cool new things for my main PC. hehe Is this hard to do? Or simple swap and hook up the drives? Edited October 7, 2017 by superderpbro Quote Link to comment
ashman70
This is an age old question, the answer is, yes simply swap the components and everything should be fine. It's always a good idea to take a screen shot of your drive configuration, the MAIN tab in unRAID will suffice, before making the change, so you know the position of your drives and their serial numbers. Does the new motherboard have the same number of SATA ports as the old one? 1 Quote Link to comment
superderpbro
Thanks. And yes they do. My OCD is going to require me to make sure each disk is on the same port number hehe Current MB https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/product/gszv6h/msi-motherboard-csmh87mg43 One going in https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/product/Htp323/msi-motherboard-z170mmortar I assume i will need to stop the array and make sure it is set to not start at boot? ashman70
You don't need to make sure they are on the same port, unRAID remembers regardless. Yes that would be a good idea, so you can check the drives are correct and the right disk is set as the parity disk before starting the array. 1 Quote Link to comment
