Can only access via IP, some menus not working, can't access on mac

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Just moved to a different state and re-setup my Unraid box running 4.4.2. I have unmenu installed as well. I can access the normal unraid menu only by typing in the IP, but typing tower does nothing. Also when I try to go to port 8080 for unmenu (using the IP) I have openDNS tell me it can't display the syslog, and none of the links work. I only get openDNS errors. This is the type of error I get "We did not find any results for: server:8080/sys_log_tail?nl=6. Please try a new query above."

I also can't access any files from my mac, only from my PC after a restart.

I'm not sure what the problem can be, but I really want to get this up and running again.

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Attached is a log file, not sure if it's the most recent one. File was too large here is dropbox link.

Edit: Not sure if that's the correct log file, let me know if you guys need any more info from me

Thanks.

You probably added an entry to your hosts file on the MAC when you were in your old location.  It might be the wrong IP address now that you've moved.

To get the access to the links in unMENU working for your MAC

make a copy of the unmenu.conf file.  Name it unmenu_local.conf

Then, add two lines in the unmenu_local.conf file

MyHost=192.168.0.11

unRAIDHost = 192.168.0.11

Setting the correct IP address, of course.  Use the Config View/Editor built into unMENU, or an editor that uses unix style newlines at the ends of lines.

If you are not sure of your editor, when finished editing type:

fromdos < /boot/unmenu/unmenu_local.conf > /tmp/unmenu_local.conf

mv /tmp/unmenu_local.conf /boot/unmenu/unmenu_local.conf

Then, re-start unMENU by typing

killall awk

/boot/unmenu/uu

As Joe L. said, you may have set up the hosts file on the Mac in the earlier location.  The file is at /etc/hosts on the Mac.  The format:

IP <tab> hostname

Just make sure the IP address in the file matches the IP of the unRaid server, and setup the router to have the unRaid server IP stay static if you are able to.

As for accessing the server from the Mac, I'm assuming you are going to the "Go" menu in finder, then to "Connect to Server," but are you trying to use the hostname ("Tower") or have you tried the specific IP address?  Once the hosts file in /etc/hosts is updated, you should be able to use the hostname, but try testing out with the IP address if you haven't yet.

Ok.

Did the steps above and unmenu is back up and running! Where I added those two lines, I assumed you meant to put the ip address of the unraid server and not the computer.

But, typing in tower still does not work, and I can't see any shared folder on the mac.

Thanks for the help so far!

j.metts I can't seem to find the host files on the mac.

Bump, last questions still stand. Typing in tower does nothing, and I can't see any shared folder on my mac.

Edit: Had to force connection on mac, so that problem is fixed, but typing tower in any browser does nothing.

he told you were the hosts file was.  It is hidden though and you hae to get to it by typing it into the "Go to Folder" window.

If you head over to the unRAID wiki in the unofficial manual you can do a search in there and find directions on how to edit that file.
