Can't mount unassigned drive after failed format

Featured Replies

Hi,

unRAID noob here trying to setup a gaming Win10 VM and am having issues setting up my unassigned device. I'm hoping to use the unassigned device for my VMs.

  1. Installed Unassigned Devices plugin
  2. Installed NVMe drive
  3. Turned on "Destructive Mode"
  4. Tried to Format drive in xfs however it seems there was a warning
  5. Now i can't seem to mount/insert the drive or do anything else with it

Not sure what the next step is here? Any ideas?

Thx

I believe there was an issue with the UD plugin formatting NVMe devices, you can temporarily assigned it as the cache device, format, and then unassign it and mount with UD.

Thx!

Again noobie so i have a couple of questions for you :)

  • Will doing this automatically create a Cache pool/raid ?
    • If so, Is it easy to back out of that?
  • Lastly, if i add it as a cache drive will it format the drive using btrfs?
    • Will i be able to reformat the drive to xfs after that using UD?

Thanks again!

Not if you assign it as the only cache device.

Make sure only one cache slot is selected, assign it, before starting the array click on cache and change filesystem to xfs, start array and format.

P.S. change the filesystem back to btrfs or auto if that is your current cache fs.

P.P.S. If you have dockers/VMs using cache disable both services before doing this, re-enable in the end.

OK, thx for the clarification.

Was hoping there was a 1-liner in the cmd line that would do this but hopefully i can make it through this :)
