unRAID only writing to 1 disc

Featured Replies

I'm hoping to find some help with a problem I'm having.  I recently built an unRAID with four 2 TB discs, 1 for parity and 3 for data.  I have created a single share called "Media" that is exported read-only, with the exception of 1 user "kevin" (that's me).

I set the share allocation method to "Most Free."  There are no discs listed in either the included or excluded fields.

Split level is set to 1.

The unRAID, however, appears to be writing to only 1 of the three discs, disc1.  I can mount any of the discs individually, or the share "Media" itself and I can see the data I've put there, but disc2 and disc3 are not being used.

I've checked the parity, stopped and started the array, rebooted the machine without change.

This is unRAID 4.5.1, which was on the usb drive I purchased from Lime Technology.  The machine itself is a Supermicro C2SEA with 4 GB ram, and four 2TB WD EARS drives (with the jumper placed on each).

Any help or suggestions are appreciated.

This sounds like a split-level issue. Have you tried increasing your Split Level?

I agree, it sounds like increasing your Split Level will solve the problem.  If you describe your file organizational system, we can suggest a Split Level that should work.  Or you can just keep increasing it by 1 until unRAID behaves how you want it to behave.

I would also suggest upgrading to 4.5.4 whenever you are able to.  The process is very easy - just download 4.5.4 from LimeTech's site, extract the files, then replace bzroot and bzimage on your flash drive (you can do this through the 'flash' share over the network, or by powering down your server, removing the flash drive, and using a separate computer to copy over the files).  You don't need to touch any other file on your flash drive.

As long as you use 4.5.1 you run the risk of encountering the 'unformatted' bug.

The way I have it organized is

/Media/Movies/movie1.iso

/Media/Movies/movie1.nfo

/Media/Movies/movie2.iso

/Media/Movies/movie2.nfo

etc.

I would like items below the level of Movies to be distributed in groups.  I generally use .isos but the would not entirely exclude an rare movie in a folder with VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders in it.

Increasing the split level from 1 to 2 did not get files moved among the different disks, but going to 3 did.  I am going to have to study that portion of the manual further, as I clearly do not understand how to count levels in the correct way in this setting.  Thank you for the help.

I also appreciate the pointer on version. I will do that upgrade as well.

Thanks again for your help.
