June 7, 201016 yr I find the whole concept of rebates to be totally idiotic. If Seagate wants to sell me this item for the bottom-line price of $89, they can do so upfront, without wasting extra money on hiring rebate-center personnel. (and without wasting my time). So I make it my personal policy to never buy things with rebates. But that's just me.
June 7, 201016 yr I agree. I will not buy anything with rebates ever again. Half the time they do not even send them.
June 7, 201016 yr The newer rebate procedures make it easier and more foolproof to fill out correctly, track and receive your rebate. Last rebate I got from Seagate had an option, For a service fee of $3, you received it within a few business days. I would have to say, I got a great deal on a drive and within 2 weeks had the rebate in my hand. What I'm not keen on is the new rebate debit cards. It makes it harder to extract money from it. You have to track how much you've used and you can't put more on it. I've resorted to a secondary paypal account to forward the money to my primary one. Oh... and then you have the paypal fees ontop of that. Yeah, it's a pain and I agree that you should not have to go through these gyrations for a deal. However, I have received some extraordinary deals.
June 7, 201016 yr Author I totally agree. Generally i hear bad stories about rebates. I don't plan on purchasing this drive but i thought others might find it useful. Personnally, I'm planning on sticking with WD Green drives.
June 7, 201016 yr I go through a lot of rebates, and don't have any trouble with them. Sure, they can be a bit of a pain, but filling out the form and mailing it in is usually worth the $30-40 I get back. The debit cards are also a bit annoying, but I've learned which grocery stores and gas stations usually accept them, so I just spend them all in one lump sum on my normal grocery/gas purchases.
