April 19, 200620 yr I lost mine, and I can't seem to find them on the website (perhaps im just tired and missing them) Does anyone have them? I am at the linux command screen and have no idea what to type (logged in as root)
April 19, 200620 yr Author nevermind Tom, I believe this was a case of user ignorance / being tired and not realizing everything was good to go already =) there isnt a way to password protect the website where everything is controlled is there?
April 19, 200620 yr Password Security and Access Control do not exist in any of the current releases (or in any of the beta releases so far) Those are some of the most requested features. Once logged in as "root" you can issue the "passwd" command and then be prompted for a password for the "root" login. This however will revert back to no password the next time the server is rebooted. It helps a tiny bit, but all the data drives and the flash drive contents are shared in read/write mode to anyone on the LAN, so your data can be erased by unauthorized users on your LAN. In addition, the administrative web-page is accessable to anyone on your LAN, so it too could use a "login" prompt before being allowed to administer the server. Someday perhaps... :( Tom has had his hands full with the initial set of bugs that affect performance and is still trying to get them behind him. He said security is up there on his list of improvements for a future release. Joe L.
April 19, 200620 yr Author thanks for the info. I used to be an avid follower of the AVS forum thread, but haven't been following it much recently. Is there anything in the instructions I need to know? Currently my parity drive is building, so hopefully all is well
