January 8, 20188 yr Hey all, I did a search, but can't really find a single technique for replacing both drives in a cache pool (many guides are quite old and seem outdated). Anyway, I have 1x 120 GB Corsair, and 1x 128 GB Samsung SSD in my cache pool, and I'm looking to replace them with 2x identical 250 GB Samsung EVO SSD. The two main ways I can find to do it are: Follow the 'method 2' instructions here to add both to the existing cache pool, one after the other: https://lime-technology.com/forums/topic/46802-faq-for-unraid-v6/?tab=comments#comment-480419 Then remove the 2x old cache drives, one at a time (as per https://lime-technology.com/forums/topic/46802-faq-for-unraid-v6/?tab=comments#comment-480418) This makes me wonder, though: do I have to expand the filesystem on the new drives (step 7 in the first link), and if so, do I do it before or after I've removed the old drives from the cache pool? OR As I only have about 35 GB in my cache pool after I invoke the mover, should I just backup the contents of the cache pool onto the array, then shutdown (also disable array and Docker auto-start - I don't run VMs), swap out the old drives for the new, then boot up. Would there then just be an option to assign the new disks as cache? And then, once that new cache pool is ready, could I then just copy the folders from the array to the new pool? Or will booting without the old cache pool present upset something? And will copying cache to the array and back again bork something with permissions, shares and/or Docker? I think that this second option will probably be faster and less hassle, but I'm concerned that there's something I've overlooked. Anyway, thanks for your help!
January 8, 20188 yr Second option is best for your situation, follow the instruction here, though it mentions single cache it's the same for a pool, just create the new pool before restoring the data: https://lime-technology.com/forums/topic/46802-faq-for-unraid-v6/?do=findComment&comment=511923
January 11, 20188 yr The way I do it is to run the Community Apps backup option to back up to the array. Once that's complete just shut down, swap in your new cache drives. Set up the cache and then run the CA Restore option. Then you just have to set up your Dockers from the "Previous apps" in CA (all the config will be filled in for you, so just go through each one and run them again).
