June 25, 201016 yr Hi everybody, Well, my system is running smoothly and feels solid. Thank you all for your help. I'm having an issue with a couple of programs. When I'm on my iMac and startup iTunes or iPhoto, i get into some problems. I have all my music on the unRAID, but the iTunes library file is on the internal HD. Sometimes when I start up iTunes, it goes thru the entire library and reports all the files missing. I think it's probably because that disc in the unRAID is spun down. I have a similar problem with iPhoto, where I keep that library on the unRAID and it comes up immediately telling me it can't find the library and to choose another one. I go to the unRAID and choose it and all is well, but again I think it's either a disk spinup issue or that it consistently takes about 9 seconds for my iMac to see the unRAID. In the finder, if I click on the unRAID share or the IP address, it takes that amount of time to show up. It's quicker on the PC, it seems almost immediate. Any ideas?

You are more than likely correct in that it is a disk spin up issue. Basically what is happening is that the disk does not spin up quick enough for iTunes and iPhotos liking. You can set the disk(s) to never spin down, or deal with the issue of it timing out. I have my iTunes music set up just like you and the one disk it is on I have to set to never spin down.

The other option is to browse over to the unRAID interface and click the [sPIN UP] button Try that first next time to see if it is a spin up timing issue or it is a name resolution issue on the LAN.
June 25, 201016 yr Author I'll try that tonight. Any other Mac users out there notice that SMB shares take a bit of time to show up?
