jebusfreek666
Sorry for the dumb question, but this is my first build and I am trying to do it right. My MOBO has a total of 8 Sata ports, and I added the LSI 9207-8i controller. So with the Sas to Sata breakout cables, I can add 8 more. Is there a preference to filling one up before the other? Splitting the drives equally? I will have a total of 13 drives (11 HDD, 2 SSD). Is it recommended to put the SSD to the MOBO instead of the controller? Or is it as straight forward as filling up the MOBO and then adding the others to the controller? Also, is there a limit to the size of the drive connected to the controller? I can't find it in the documentation anywhere. My drives are all 6tb, excepts the SSD which are 500gb. Thanks Edited January 18, 2018 by jebusfreek666 Quote Link to comment

That way you know trim will work. 7 minutes ago, jebusfreek666 said: Also, is there a limit to the size of the drive connected to the controller? No Quote Link to comment
JorgeB
In this case you can populate them as you prefer, just make sure the LSI is on a CPU slot, i.e., the slot usually reserved for the GPU, if your using a non SLI desktop board. Quote Link to comment

So I would need to put it in the x16 slot, not the x8 slot? Quote Link to comment

JorgeB
OK, use either of the top two slots, both are x8 electrically, and both are CPU slots. 1 Quote Link to comment
