January 24, 20188 yr Hi, its not a big issue, just wondering why one of my VM´s always needs 2 Starts. from the log, bold underline 2018-01-21 07:37.... that shutdown is always happening when i start the VM the 1 st time, i have no idea cause it looks like a clean shutdown as seen here, the 2nd boot 2018-01-21 07:38... the mashine stays up ... only difference i see is the domain id counting up ... but that shouldnt be the issue i guess. may a way to automatically make a double start ? not a real solution, but ... as i said, if somebody has an idea, thanks ahead, its not a big deal when u know to startup 2 times 2018-01-21 07:37:17.098+0000: starting up libvirt version: 3.8.0, qemu version: 2.10.2, hostname: AlsServerLC_ALL=C PATH=/bin:/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/sbin HOME=/ QEMU_AUDIO_DRV=none /usr/local/sbin/qemu -name guest=MediaPC,debug-threads=on -S -object secret,id=masterKey0,format=raw,file=/var/lib/libvirt/qemu/domain-8-MediaPC/master-key.aes -machine pc-i440fx-2.10,accel=kvm,usb=off,dump-guest-core=off,mem-merge=off -cpu host,hv_time,hv_relaxed,hv_vapic,hv_spinlocks=0x1fff,hv_vendor_id=none -drive file=/usr/share/qemu/ovmf-x64/OVMF_CODE-pure-efi.fd,if=pflash,format=raw,unit=0,readonly=on -drive file=/etc/libvirt/qemu/nvram/a3245469-7de9-e016-f473-67dfaa8942e5_VARS-pure-efi.fd,if=pflash,format=raw,unit=1 -m 8192 -realtime mlock=off -smp 4,sockets=1,cores=2,threads=2 -uuid a3245469-7de9-e016-f473-67dfaa8942e5 -display none -no-user-config -nodefaults -chardev socket,id=charmonitor,path=/var/lib/libvirt/qemu/domain-8-MediaPC/monitor.sock,server,nowait -mon chardev=charmonitor,id=monitor, mode=control -rtc base=localtime -no-hpet -no-shutdown -boot strict=on -device nec-usb-xhci,id=usb,bus=s=pci.0,addr=0x9 -msg timestamp=on2018-01-21 07:37:17.098+0000: Domain id=8 is tainted: high-privileges2018-01-21 07:37:17.098+0000: Domain id=8 is tainted: host-cpu2018-01-21T07:37:17.138518Z qemu-system-x86_64: -chardev pty,id=charserial0: char device redirected to /dev/pts/1 (label charserial0)2018-01-21 07:37:48.727+0000: shutting down, reason=shutdown2018-01-21 07:38:03.590+0000: starting up libvirt version: 3.8.0, qemu version: 2.10.2, hostname: AlsServerLC_ALL=C PATH=/bin:/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/sbin HOME=/ QEMU_AUDIO_DRV=none /usr/local/sbin/qemu -name guest=MediaPC,debug-threads=on -S -object secret,id=masterKey0,format=raw,file=/var/lib/libvirt/qemu/domain-9-MediaPC/master-key.aes -machine pc-i440fx-2.10,accel=kvm,usb=off,dump-guest-core=off,mem-merge=off -cpu host,hv_time,hv_relaxed,hv_vapic,hv_spinlocks=0x1fff,hv_vendor_id=none -drive file=/usr/share/qemu/ovmf-x64/OVMF_CODE-pure-efi.fd,if=pflash,format=raw,unit=0,readonly=on -drive file=/etc/libvirt/qemu/nvram/a3245469-7de9-e016-f473-67dfaa8942e5_VARS-pure-efi.fd,if=pflash,format=raw,unit=1 -m 8192 -realtime mlock=off -smp 4,sockets=1,cores=2,threads=2 -uuid a3245469-7de9-e016-f473-67dfaa8942e5 -display none -no-user-config -nodefaults -chardev socket,id=charmonitor,path=/var/lib/libvirt/qemu/domain-9-MediaPC/monitor.sock,server,nowait -mon chardev=charmonitor,id=monitor, mode=control -rtc base=localtime -no-hpet -no-shutdown -boot strict=on -device nec-usb-xhci,id=usb,bus=s=pci.0,addr=0x9 -msg timestamp=on2018-01-21 07:38:03.590+0000: Domain id=9 is tainted: high-privileges2018-01-21 07:38:03.590+0000: Domain id=9 is tainted: host-cpu2018-01-21T07:38:03.632251Z qemu-system-x86_64: -chardev pty,id=charserial0: char device redirected to /dev/pts/1 (label charserial0)2018-01-21T17:28:23.803541Z qemu-system-x86_64: terminating on signal 15 from pid 8592 (/usr/sbin/libvirtd)2018-01-21 17:28:25.234+0000: shutting down, reason=shutdown
January 24, 20188 yr Author well, no big things. 1 passed through a nvidia 1070 with rom load and a usb card, thats it. rest is pretty straight forward. i think i remember i had this before some time ago ... but im not completely sure.
January 24, 20188 yr you answered a question I did not ask. if this is windows or OS X, then not following a guide can lead to stability issues.
January 25, 20188 yr Author it is win10 1709. i usualy always setup like described in unraid wiki. i followed then the guide for extracting the gpu rom and loaded it. then i followed the sticky PC passthrough guide for the extra USB card. So, when its started its all good, just the boot "before" the OS it quits, when i check the screen i see the Tiano RAM Test, and black screen ,,, no errors or so, next start i see the Tiano Ram Test, then the circle from win10 boot, all fine. My 2nd win10 VM is also running a Nvidia GT1030 (work only), pretty much same setup (here i have passed through the onboard USB controller), just as note. My 3rd win10 VM is only a VNC guest, also booting as expected, no paased through devices as its an working mashine only (ciscoVPN for work).
January 25, 20188 yr as a test to help determine where the fault is, what happens when you boot without the usb and GPU and use vnc only?
January 26, 20188 yr Author pretty funny, i did disabled and yes, regular start went fine, then added nvidia, also good, then added USB, also good now thanks for the point, just works now without any changes
