July 31, 201015 yr Hi all, I've been unsuccessfully trying to get my wife's new laptop connect to Unraid over the past few days and am at a point where I exhausted all known to me options to try. Hopefully someone can help me. My network is set up this way: DSL modem <- buffalo wrt-hp-g54 router/access point <- NETGEAR GS108T switch <- Unraid server, PC, HTPC. The laptop when connected to the gigabit switch can map Unraid shares no problem, but when I connect wirelessly, I get an error message that the specified location cannot be found. I can ping the Unraid from the laptop when connected wirelessly though. On the router I run Tomato firmware and it is set up as PPPoE/DHCP and Access Point. In the devices I see that all my network components including the switch are on the same subnet. Only thing is interface type for all is "br0", and the laptop is "eth0". Tried to replace the router with an old BEFSR41 router and run the wrt-hp-g54 as an access point only and connected to the switch, same thing - can connect to the internet, see all my windows PC's on the network, but not the Unraid. Also tried to track network activity with Wireshark, but don't see anything glaring there... though I don't think I make sense out of any data shown there... Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.
August 1, 201015 yr Not sure, can you ping the server by name on wireless? If not I guess thats where your problem lies.
August 1, 201015 yr For me a similar problem was related to specifying OpenDNS on my router rather than using my ISP's default DNS. Since you're able to access the server by IP address, modifying the hosts file on the laptop is probably the easiest fix. Obviously the unRAID server IP address needs to be fixed for that to work well.
