IamSpartacus Posted February 21, 2018 Posted February 21, 2018 What's the best application that can be run in docker for syncing shares between two unRAID servers? I'm seeing SyncThing, BTSync, and Resilio Sync. I'm looking the fastest speed possible.
shaunsund Posted February 22, 2018 Posted February 22, 2018 I am not sure how to answer this, but I can mention how I use Resilio Sync (formerly BTSync): I have a single share for the Resilio Sync, called Sync with many folders inside that are synced. Some folders are shared with a second unRaid machine, some aren't. I suppose I could configure it to have other Shares added to the docker... but haven't done that. I don't share the main Sync share via SMB or at all. My reasoning is that each shared folder has a .sync folder where meta data is kept. I could hide that folder in samba config (veto files). A second reason is that files added in samba have ownership of the samba user. IE owned by a user other than 'nobody'.... As long as the group ownership doesn't limit the Resilio Docker from deleting etc. it shouldn't be a problem, but it really irks my OCD to have mixed ownership. FWIW, my docker config is shown below. Hope this helps.

shaunsund Posted February 22, 2018 Posted February 22, 2018 Really depends on where the other devices are connected. For example, between the 2 unRaid servers, one is at my parents' home so in theory it should max out upload and download. Between my laptop and my unraid server, I have seen at least 20Mbps - 30Mbps, which I think is nearly the max of my wireless connection... I'd test it right now but I added a new Parity drive and it's still rebuilding. But Resilio Sync, due to the technology, can be slower I have noticed. But its usually 'set it and forget it'. Definitely worth the license IMO.

I have a Gigabit connection between both servers and transfer large amounts of data everyday. Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
shaunsund Posted February 22, 2018 Posted February 22, 2018 In my example with my laptop, it was using Wifi. So, the main limiting factor is the Wifi, in my case. If your unraid servers are on gigabit and same network, it should max out the connection. Resilio sync has a 2 week demo. I'd recommend giving it a try. But, beyond Resilio Sync, I don't know of any other option. SyncThing I think is similar to Resilio Sync, but free, I think. I tried it last year but setting up sync folders seemed complicated.
