March 4, 20188 yr Hi again, I thought I should re-think more carefully the HBA card that I will buy for my new hardware. I wanted a card that will: 1. Connect up to at least 8 x drives 2. Support 6TB and 8TB drives 3. Allow drives to spindown when not use. 4) Fully supported by Unraid 6.xx latest version Had my eyes on the Dell H310 (because it is cheap) but looks like the LSI 9XXX series are just as cheap if not better. Questions I have is: 1) Looks like many favour the 9211-8i. I am unable to ascertain if this support drive spindown. It does look like this support 8TB drives. Is this correct? 2) is the 9201-8i a better option than the 9211-8i? Is there a guide to which LSI cards we should go for in unraid? Many thanks Edited March 4, 20188 yr by fliptoback

They are very similar, 9201 is IT mode only. 3 minutes ago, fliptoback said: s there a guide to which LSI cards we should go for in unraid? Any LSI with a SAS2008/2308/3008 chipset in IT mode, e.g., 9201-8i, 9211-8i, 9207-8i, 9300-8i, etc and clones, like the Dell H200/H310 and IBM M1015, these latter ones need to be crossflashed.

Thanks again Johnnie. U are always the first one to the rescue When you replied "yes", just want to confirm that 9211-i support drive spin down AND and 8TB drives; i.e. inclusively. Is this correct? Which would you go for, assuming the 9201-8i and 9211-i are both priced about the same?

They are the same, the 9211 might need flashing to IT mode, so if you are not comfortable with that get the 9201

March 5, 20188 yr Trying to make the same decision myself, so if i understand correctly, https://www.ebay.com/p/LSI-Logic-Sas9201-8i-6gb-PCIe-Express-2-0-RAID-Card-Low-Profile/1386720237 I wouldnt need to flash that one, i could just use it as is and be good to go?

That's how I understand from Johnnie. Maybe Johnnie and others can re-confirm. All this HBA stuff is confusing, at least to me.....
