no internet connectivity after reboot

Featured Replies

Everything was working fine after the upgrade (except my VM's), but after rebooting, I lost access to my server.  I hooked up a monitor, and can see it start fine, Ican log into the server, but I cannot ping any address, nor can any other machine on the network find this machine.  The server IP does not show up in the list of devices connected to the router either.

I've moved the ethernet cable to both onboard NIC slots, and also to both external/card slots, none allow the server to see or be seen.  I've had similar issues before, but moving the ethernet cable always worked before this.

i guess I'm going to try to start with the GUI startup and see if that lets me roll back the version to previous to see it that helps.

Any other ideas on how/why this could happen, or how to troubleshoot?

I can't attach a log because I can't get to the server.

From the login on the console, type    diagnostics    and that will write the diagnostics file to the logs folder/directory on your flash drive.

Thanks for the tip.  I did that, but before I even looked at the file, I kept digging.  I wondered if my BIOS had an update for the latest intel issue, and also wanted to remove some unused drives and just decided it best to almost start from scratch.

My BIOS allows me to search for updates online if the ethernet is connected, but that wasn't even working.  I tried both ports, turned off one of the ports to ensure only one could work, but still could not get it working.  I ended up running the modem straight to the box but that didn't even work.  Super weird because it was working fine a few days ago.  Anyway, figured it best to reboot the modem before giving up and then I got internet at the motherboard, and yes, there was an updated BIOS.

I flashed the new BIOS and went thru all the options and tweaked it to what I thought should be good.  Tested internet, worked fine.  Great.  Moved cables back and no internet again.  rebooted modem and router, no internet.  Moved a cable from the TV to the server, and internet worked.  Connected my old cable to the TV, no internet.  I think this is the first time I've ran into a bad ethernet cable, but that was the issue.  New cable, internet works on motherboard, settings all good, booted unRAID, and it finally became available on my intranet.

Started my VM and it 'found' the video card and everything seems to be working now.

I made sure to set the default/primary monitor to onboard and a few other changes from default BIOS settings, but it seems I may have gotten it right now.

Tested a UHD version of Blade Runner, and the GT1030 played it just fine on the monitor; finally.
