Missing folrders

Featured Replies

I am trying to view folders on my unraid from multiple xp machines.  I mapped the drive and I can see all the folders and files from computer"A", but from the computer "B" I see all but one folder (the folder I could not see did have a space in the name, but then I created another folder with no spaces and I can not see that folder from computer "B" either.  I would imagine there is a form that handles this, but I am struggling to find one.  Can anyone point me in the right direction?

The right direction seems to be: "computer B"

If you are using user-shares, press the rescan button on the server. Boot both A and B, and check again.

I have User Shares set to Don't Export.  To be honest with you I have not messed with user shares yet.  Should I change this seting to something else and then hit re-scan?  Is there another forum that has already addressed this issue that I am dealing with?

Windows networking is 50% logic and 50% woodoo.

If you see it on A but not on B, then probably it is not on the Unraidserver the problem lies.

I won't disagree with you on the 50% woodoo of XP.  I did check to make sure that hidden files are not hidden and system files are not hidden.  Neither of these attempts helped.

I just mapped a network drive to my MacBook and the Mac was not able to see all the folders that have been created.  I then created a folder using the mac.  Computer A could not see the newly created folder, but computer B could.  I then went to computer B and created a folder.  The Mac could see the folder but Computer A could not.  I know that XP as issues, but I did not expect the issues from the Mac.

I also attempted to create a folder on Computer B hard drive and the copy and paste the folder to the UnRaid server to see if creating the file on the unraid was the issue, but this procedure did not seem to help.

Sounds like woodoo alright!

Open a telnet session to the unRAID server and type this:

v  /mnt/disk1

Note: instead of 'disk1' type the name of the share with the woodoo folder behavior.

The 'v' command will produce a single entry per line which shows the permissions of files and folders at the top level.  Please select/copy/paste and post here.

I started a Telnet Session and tried the following from Computer "A"

Tower login: root

Linux 2.6.20.

root@Tower:~# v /mnt/BJPics

/bin/ls: /mnt/BJPics: No such file or directory

root@Tower:~# cd /mnt/disk2/Pictures

root@Tower:/mnt/disk2/Pictures# v /mnt/BJPics

/bin/ls: /mnt/BJPics: No such file or directory

root@Tower:/mnt/disk2/Pictures# dir

#1/            100_4524.jpg*  Bo2/            beach1.bmp*  show1.bmp*

100_4463.jpg*  100_4593.jpg*  Bri'sPictures/  bjfiles3/    show2.bmp*

100_4514.jpg*  100_4594.jpg*  banquet1.bmp*      bjfilesbj2/  straw1.bmp*

100_4516.jpg*  100_4639.jpg*  banquet2.bmp*      bjfilesmac/  straw2.bmp*

100_4522.jpg*  Bo/        be03.bmp*        gy1.bmp*    straw3.bmp*

Above are all the files and folders located in on disk2/pictures.  As you can see BJPics is not showing up as a folder. (BJPics is located on disk2/Pictures/BJPics)

You can however see the folder created by the Mac "bjfilesmac", folder created by Computer "B" "bjfilesbj2".  I did have a folder called "Bons Camera" which I renamed to "BonsCamera" (I thought that maybe the space in the name was causing issues)

I just realized I browsed to the wrong drive.  BJPics is not located on disk2 it is located on disk1.  With this discovery I went to computer "B" and the MAC and discovered that I had mapped drive letter "O:" to disk2 (on computer "A" I had mapped drive letter "O:" to disk1).  Mapping all computers to disk1 fixed the issue.  What is confusing is that disk2 is unassigned. I took it out of the server (it has not been in the server for several days).  The main page is showing disk2 as "Not Installed"  How is it that I can browse through the files of disk2, add folders, and view the files. when the drive is unassigned and not installed?

So it was not woodoo but a user error.  Sorry for the user error post.  I still would like to know more about seeing files and adding folders to a disk that is unassigned and not installed in the unraid server.
