Leonardo Takahata
Hello all! Which is better for the cache (2T + 2T as disks): a 500Gb HDD or a 240Gb SSD? Quote Link to comment
CHBMB
Depends if you want speed (SSD) or capacity (HDD) Quote Link to comment
pwm
If running virtual machines or some more interesting Dockers, then the SSD would definitely give much needed extra speed. If used as a NAS with just larger files, then a HDD would manage quite well, unless you happen to have a 10 gbit/s network interface. The real advantage of the SSD isn't the higher transfer rates, but the almost non-existing seek times. So a SSD can jump constantly between multiple files and still manage a high transfer rate, while the HDD transfer speed drops very quickly the more seeks that are needed. Quote Link to comment
