June 28, 20188 yr Hi guys, I do not know if this is a stupid question but: I am going to send the server overseas (it will travel in an aircraft container) in the next weeks... Any suggestion to keep my data as safe as possible? Any hint more than appreciated Thanks

Any suggestion to keep my data as safe as possible? Any hint more than appreciated Thanks Not a stupid question, but really should be in the lounge, not general support. If it were me, I'd remove all the drives, including the USB, and package them separately. I've had first hand bad experiences with shipping computers intact. Also, any heavy heatsinks should be totally removed. One machine destined for Anchorage AK from lower 48 suffered catastrophic failure when the CPU heatsink broke loose and removed several capacitors from the motherboard, as well as leaving deep impact marks. Use something similar to this for hard drive shipment, each drive must be isolated by a static bag and a layer of non-crushable, non-movable energy absorber. Loose fill is bad, bubble wrap can be made to work if each drive is wrapped and taped in such a fashion that the corners can't get close to the edge of the bubble wrap. In no case is it ok for one hard drive to touch another metal to metal, keep them well separated. http://www.memorypack.com.tw/image/HDD package/foam/20ct/20-count hdd hard drive foam packaging shipping box container.html Before you do any of this, make sure you have backups, preferably multiple, of all the data that is important. Stuff happens, and many times even data specific insurance doesn't even come CLOSE to making you whole when it comes to this kind of loss.
