WD10EARS wont format, shows errors?

Featured Replies

Hi,

Am I supposed to do something special to install and format a new WD Green WD10EARS disk?

the disk is correctly detected but when I choose to format, along with the other 3 disks, it

comes back after a couple of refreshes and shows as unformatted with 305 errors?

Here is the Disk Status screen:-

Model / Serial No.	Temperature	Size	Free	Reads	Writes	Errors
parity	SAMSUNG_HD103SI_S1Y5J90S309547	32°C	976,762,552	-	13,619	1,464	0
disk1	WDC_WD10EARS-00M_WD-WMAZA0050690	0°C	976,762,552	Unformatted	3,132	511	305
disk2	WDC_WD2500JS-75M_WD-WMANK1310876	48°C	244,140,592	244,100,296	2,902	14	0
disk3	ST3200822AS_4LJ1Y6AE	52°C	195,360,952	195,322,144	2,860	12	0

Also it does not seem to show temperature?

I saw some mention of placing a jumper on these "advanced format" disks but I'm unsure if and when it should be installed?

Thanks

It should be installed before you add the hard drive to your machine. Definitely before you run the pre-clear script on it.

Thanks for your replies.

Rather oddly the drive seems to have failed completely now. It is not being picked up by

the BIOS any longer! In fact with it connected the BIOS now seems to hang for about 30 seconds whilst trying to

detect the disk.

Tried it on another PC too.

Oh well, guess I will have to return it. Shame!
