June 24, 200719 yr I finally got unRAID up and running (after figuring out that both of my flash drives were faulty). I set up a parity drive and a data drive without any problems (both 320GB drives). I transferred the data from another 320GB drive in my PC, and then tried to install the new drive. First, it had trouble clearing the drive (it would start the process, and then freeze the server). I fixed this by shutting down the server, unplugging the new drive, restarted the server, shut it down again, plugged in the drive, rebooted the server, and then started the server. The drive would clear just fine, but I wouldn't be able to start the server. I would click start, the screen would change to "Starting..." but refreshing the page would just bring it back to the state where the new drive was cleared, but the array had not been started yet. Changing pages, without changing any settings, would make the new drive disappear in the Main page. Is there anything I can do to the disk to make it work in the array? (I'll add a screen capture after I grab it from the other computer)
June 24, 200719 yr If this is an IDE drive then try swapping out the cable. Make sure you're using a flat, 80 coonducter cbale that's not too long. It's amazing how often a different cable fixes things.
June 24, 200719 yr Author It is the exact same SATA drive as the other two. The cable and drive worked fine while they were in my PC - it just won't seem to format correctly when placed in the unRAID array.
June 25, 200719 yr Author hmm, I seem to have fixed the problem myself, although I'm not too sure how. After starting the array with "new disk found" didn't work, I tried "Restore." At first, that didn't work either, but after a few tries, the system finally recognized the disk and was able to format it (no issues with clearing the disk or anything). I'll try and figure out what the original problem was, for future reference (both for myself, and others who might have similar problems).
