Help! System won't boot

Featured Replies

I lost power in the room where the UnRaid server sits due to a kicked circuit breaker and now the system won't boot.  It gets past the BIOS okay, then I get a blank screen with a flashing cursor in the upper left corner.  Then the cursor drops down one line and that's it.  It just sits there and flashes at me.

What can I do?

Thanks,

Doug

Sounds like the bios might have been reset to "default values".  You'll have to hook up keyboard/monitor in order to set things straight again.

Okay I've checked all the settings and made sure they match what's on your website for the Intel D865GLCLK.  Saved changed and rebooted and I get the same thing.

What's next?

Is the boot  device still the flash drive?      It sounds as if it is trying to boot from  one of your hard-disks.

If you haven't already, I would apply your standard elimination steps when any computer fails.  Install if necessary a floppy or CD drive, adjust BIOS to boot from it, and try a bootable DOS or Linux diagnostics disk (like Knoppix or SystemRescueCD or EmergencyBootCD or UniversalBootCD), to make sure the hardware is working correctly and everything is being recognized correctly.  Then rebuild your flash drive, after backing up the config directory, formatting and using syslinux, copying a fresh installation of unRAID 4.0, then restoring your config directory to it, and restoring BIOS boot order.    I apologize if you have already done these things.

It appears to be a problem with my flash.  I went to the website and followed the instructions for making a new bootable flash.  When I put that flash in it boots off of it just fine.  So now I just have to figure out what I have to do to get my system back up and running, now that I know what the issue is.
