KVM: Windows 10 VM - Mouse movement generates high CPU usage

Featured Replies

I got a windows 10 VM which I access over RDP using xfreerdp (and remmina) from a linux system.

The odd thing is - every time I move the mouse around within the RDP session the CPU spikes significantly.

Has anybody encountered this before? Seems pretty odd.

Have you installed the native display driver instead of the one windows throws in?

Go to details and see what it says is using said processing power. Also perhaps resource monitor may give a more in depth look.

When you move the mouse you should see a process spike. By knowing what process is spiking you can focus on what could cause that. Also have you tried simply remote desktoping to it without the linux intermediary to see if it spikes the cpu?

You would think this would be something trivial and obvious right?

I have two key VMs, one is server 2012 r2 and another is windows 10 and BOTH are experiencing the same issue with mouse movement.

I've connected to the VMs over mstsc (RDP) from a windows box and the same behaviour has occurred.

Anybody else experiencing this type of issue?
