I've been looking for some information and have yet to find anything reliable. I have read that sas drives are better for server because of the through put. But I have also watched a few videos saying that you can not mix and match sas and sata in raid (which I know unraid is not really raid). I just don't want to spend the money if there is going to be any issue.

 

I just upgraded my case to a Norco rpc-4220 which has sas ports in it. My main question is, if I buy a sas drive to replace one of my parity drives, will I have any issues? Right now I have two new (ST4000VN008) ironwolf 4tb (Sata) drives as parity. I am thinking about getting the seagate (ST6000NM0034) Enterprise 6tb drives (SAS) and replacing those. The cost is about half the ironwolf 6tb. So I could replace both with sas cheaper than sata. I was just wondering which would be better and if I could run both with no problems.

In general no, there's no problem mixing SAS and SATA drives in the same controller and/or expander.
