August 7, 200718 yr Author Bit of an old thread now I know, but just thought I'd update the situation. I finally got a replacement HDD from the Seagate people. Seems the old drive had to go up to Singapore (go through testing) to determine the damage. Never heard what they figured caused it. Anyway after one month of waiting I got a replacement. I was somewhat disappointed to discover it was a reconditioned drive - not a brand new one. The retailer who supplied the drive was definitely in breech of the consumers guarantee act here in NZ according to the Ministry of Consumer Affairs. I had everything arranged to take him to the small claims court when he advised me a replacement had arrived (doesn't know how close he was). Anyway...enough of my dramas. Since that drive was removed, the system as been working flawlessly - now running 8x500gb Seagates. However, I still do cringe when the "Please Wait" icon pops up on screen when I select a movie - wondering if the drive is going to spin up. Back to the fun
