September 23, 201015 yr Just wondering if anyone could tell me how to go about under-clocking a AMD Sempron 140 on a Biostar A760g M2+? If it is even possible on this motherboard. I would like to reduce the power consumption and since I am not running much other than the stock unRAID software I feel that there is probably a lot of CPU power being used that I really do not need. Thanks, and I apologize if this has been covered previously, I tried a quick search but did not see anything on first glance.
September 23, 201015 yr Underclocking alone does not save any power. To save power, you must underVOLT the CPU. Get the specs for your chip, and find it's lowest P-state, and set the values in the BIOS to match the lowest P-state.
September 23, 201015 yr My personal opinion is that since you are running a Sempron 140 you are already doing well with the single core, as a second core would use more power. Since this is an unRAID system I assume you have quite a # of fans in your machine. Thise alone consume a lot of power. The additional gains from under volting the sempron would be negligible (unless you are really really anal about the amt of power your server uses )
