February 6, 20197 yr I'm a total noob to Unraid and never had any experience with Linux, so bear with me here.... I've spent countless hours Googling and searching the forums looking for a guide that related to my case and that I could understand/follow with no luck. This is a new install, 7 storage HDDs (3x 6TB & 4x 5TB), a 512GB cache SSD and a 1TB SSD that I plan to pass-through to a Win10 VM for gaming. I have an 8th storage drive (6TB) that has failed preclear a number of times that I'm getting replaced - I had planned on using this as one of my two parity drives. Before I ditched my previous Win10 RAID5 build, I moved my 12TB Plex "Media" folder onto an impromptu share that I labeled "Media". My goal is to move this "Media" share (and folder) from the 3x 6TB drives that it's currently on and onto the 4x 5TB drives so I can reassign two of the 6TB drives to parity. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I get deeper into unRAID!

You have to be careful with Dolphin, Krusader, Midnight Commander or the command line. You must never mix disks and user shares when moving/copying files. Linux doesn't recognize that a user share path translates to a disk path, so it is possible for you to specify a source and destination that are the same path on the same disk, with the result that it tries to overwrite the file it is trying to read.

That's what I surmised from the support threads for those two apps. When people started posting their custom scripts to execute certain tasks I took a step back, took a deep breath, and then posted this thread 😜
