maxse
Hey guys, so so I currently have an Asrock motherboard with an i5-8400 which works great. I have an ibm M1015 running IT mode. I am am looking at possibly moving it into the Supermicro chassis I have laying around. Only issue is that there are only 2 PCIX16 slots. One is being used by the LSI card and the other will be be used for a P2000 video card. There are x1 slots available. And from what I understand I could use that to power a port multiplier from HP to run all 24 drives without a bottleneck... my questions is, where and how would I then mount the multiplier card in this chassis? Anyone done this? I don’t want to lay it on it’s side to possibly short circuit by touching metal? Any thoughts or suggestions? also, any suggestions on multiplier card that could take a regular power connector to avoid me from having to use one of those risers for power? thanks so much in advance! JorgeB
You'd need a SAS expander, for example the Intel RES2CV360 It's should be possible to mount it using one or more mb standsoffs, I did that with the smaller one, the RES2SV240 Quote Link to comment
