Exclude a drive from parity?

Featured Replies

I'm currently running unRAID with 3x 8TB WD Red drives (1 parity) and a single 2TB WD Purple drive which is used for my BlueIris security cam feeds. My 8TB drives are not very busy at all but since i'm constantly writing to the WD Purple disk, the parity drive is also constantly writing to disk. I'm wondering if it's possible to exclude the 2TB WD Purple drive from getting parity written? I don't particularly care about long term storage or reliability of the video data. My motion detection automatically uploads a clip to a cloud location when it gets tripped so I will continue to have that if the drive dies on me.

Thanks

You can but only if you use it outside the array, as a cache or as an unassigned device.

This is the Plugin you need to use.

However keep in mind if that’s your plan youll have to remove the drive from your Array and rebuild your configuration so unRAID knows which drives are in the Array and which are not.

Or like mentioned use a Cache disk either being a HDD or some choose to use SSD for Dockers and speed.

Is rebuilding the configuration going to result in losing data on the 8TB drives?

Rebuilding Configuration rebuilds your Parity from the Drives you have selected in your Array.

Its not intended as a Drive Cleaner nor does it function as one. if you see the word Format anywhere that’ll do it. 😀

I'll try to avoid formatting :) thanks!
