Hello,

 

I was just after some advice regarding an UnRaid server that i am looking at building. Here are the base specs of the system:

 

CPU: i5-6500

RAM: 4GB

HDD: 500GB Seagate

Graphics: Integrated

 

My main question about the build it regarding the configuration of the drives.

I am looking at purchasing 2x WD 8tb drives for the array, one is going to be the parity the other is going to be in the pool.

I was just wondering if its worth adding an SSD as a cache drive to this setup? I am limited to only 3 SATA ports as am planning on using SFF PC.

Is there any benefit of having a cache drive when only using 1 drive in the array?

 

Also the VMs OS system drive is going host of an M.2 SSD. Do you see any issues with this setup?

    You probably want more RAM if you are planning to run multiple VMs.
