October 29, 201015 yr OK Chaps, I'm a bit of a dunce when it comes to things Unix. My UNRAID array has been buzzing along happily for a year or so now, just loaded the latest stable release. Time to add more drives, problem. The MB network controller is toast so I've been running with a PCI controller, no problem, the only other PCI slot has got a SATA controller in it. Need to free up that PCI slot. I DO have a PCI-E slot for which I obtained the only PCI-E network card I could find locally (we're in rural Thailand, getting anything computer related is a challenge). Anyway I've got a TP-Link TG-3468B which is based on the Realtek 8168B chipset. With the new card in the PCI-E slot (still with the old card in so I can Telnet to the box) no dice, I don't see the shiny new card. Sooooo, should I be loading drivers (there are Linux drivers on the disk that came with the card) or something equally inane and stupid Told you I was a Unix dunce. Help please, or a pointer in the right direction.
October 29, 201015 yr Well, this doesn't help you exactly, but.... Why not use a SATA expansion card in the PCIe slot instead? The drives will benefit from the extra speed more than the NIC will...
October 29, 201015 yr Author ^^^ I would if I could get one. Owners of Japanese motorcycles in the 70s will have heard of the metal 'Unobtainium' when referring to spares, PCI-E SATA controllers are made of the same stuff here. I was lucky to get the network card (ordered in error by the local computer outlet). I also just happen to have a spare PCI SATA controller.

October 29, 201015 yr Rural Thailand is where he says in the first post. yep, sorry, didnt notice You can find some AOC-SASLP-MV8 (8-port PCI-E card) in ebay, for example, and some sellers post to thailand. Unless you have problems with customs as in my country (Greece)
October 30, 201015 yr Author We're near Chai Badan 15°12'22"N 101°8'12"E Yeah, I may end up getting something off ebay, customs are rarely an issue, the courier failing to find the house is the usual problem. I'm just worried that as I can't get the network card going maybe my PCIe slot is buggered or somehow disabled (I see nothing in BIOS). If it is I'll just get a new mainboard. Card works fine in a Windoze box.
October 30, 201015 yr Yeah, I may end up getting something off ebay, customs are rarely an issue, the courier failing to find the house is the usual problem. :'( I have the same problem where i live that's why whenever i order something, i give the post office address and collect it from there. I'm just worried that as I can't get the network card going maybe my PCIe slot is buggered or somehow disabled (I see nothing in BIOS). If it is I'll just get a new mainboard. Card works fine in a Windoze box. If you check here: http://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php?title=Hardware_Compatibility#Network_Controllers your network's card chipset is not mentioned. That doesn't necessarily mean it wont work with Unraid but there is no guarantee it works. Additionally, if it works with windows, that means that your PCI-E works, doesn't it? Unless you mean it is a different box. Then maybe try using a graphics card on the problematic PCI-E or even installing windows on a spare disk on your box and check if they see the network card...
