The card is an 88se9215 - one HDD and one optical drive connected. Supposedly it's "bootable, working out of the box" on the compatibility chart.

It looks like the drives are found and identified (line 946 & 948)

Then it seems to timeout, fail to identify, switch to sata 2, then move on to the next one. (starting line 1005)

 

Any ideas?

I have the amd_iommu=pt appended, same thing without the amd_

It's a controller problem, doesn't look like the typical Marvell/VT-d issue, but Marvell controller are never recommended, if you can and 2 ports are enough replace it with an Asmedia based controller.
