blazinlow
i added 2 new discs to my array but there showing up as ide not scsi as seen here. parity device: pci-0000:00:11.0-scsi-1:0:0:0 host2 (sdb) WDC_WD20EARS-00MVWB0_WD-WMAZ20262162 disk1 device: pci-0000:00:11.0-scsi-0:0:0:0 host1 (sda) WDC_WD20EARS-00MVWB0_WD-WMAZ20116872 disk2 device: pci-0000:00:11.0-scsi-2:0:0:0 host3 (sdc) WDC_WD20EARS-00J2GB0_WD-WCAYY0008043 disk3 device: pci-0000:00:11.0-scsi-3:0:0:0 host4 (sdd) WDC_WD20EARS-00S8B1_WD-WCAVY2947853 disk4 device: pci-0000:00:14.1-ide-1:0 ide1 (hdc) WDC_WD20EARS-00J2GB0_WD-WCAYY0244309 the parity d1 d2 and d3 were there before but disc 4 and 5 are the new ones. i never switched ANYTHING in the bios on my mobo so i assume the new drives just happen to be on the other chipset ports on my mobo and enabling AHCI would fix this but is it even a issue? it took a really long time to preclear these drives compared to the others. should i be concerned? if i switch ahci on will it mess anything up now? thx Link to comment
kenoka
Your last two ports are in IDE mode. That's why preclear was slow. Go ahead and switch to AHCI, and all should be well. unRAID as far as I know doesn't care about AHCI vs. IDE. Link to comment

This is typically slower than if working in the native SATA mode. It is because older Window's OS (WinXP and prior) have no SATA drivers, so it the MB did not emulate the IDE drives, it could not boot windows from that disk. You can change the emulation in the BIOS to ACHI and it will not affect unRAID at all. (other than potentially making the disk access faster) Joe L. Link to comment
