LSI 8xPCIe 8xSATA HBA

Featured Replies

The LSI is a Hardware RAID card, not a simple SATA Expansion card like the SuperMicro.  Therefore, I'm not surprised that you would pay double for it.  The dealextreme price you found is surprising.

I don't know if the LSI card will work with unRAID or not.  Doesn't seem worth the risk in my opinion.

By the way, you can generally find the Supermicro card for under $100.  Here's what I always do:

Find it on Superbiiz

Use this site to find a Superbiiz promo code.  The current one is $10 off, but they often have $15 off ones as well.  I've bought the Supermicro card for as low as $96 this way.

Superbiiz seems to consistently be the cheapest place to obtain the Supermicro card, and their customer service is great as well.

It looks like a LSI1068e based card, which means no official support as of now.

Some progress has been made by SK to make this work.UnRAID on VMWare ESXi with Raw Device Mapping

Also a couple of threads in the Hardware forum on this chipset based cards.

Is there a future for this LSI 1068E-based controller under unRAID v5.0 ?

I believe they do work now (there is still no temperature reporting and perhaps other small quirks) but this probably will be fixed one day.

You probably will have to make sure the card is flashed with the non-RAID "IT" firmware.
