The white wire is the negative wire. The colored wire is the positive wire.

 

Edit: wait, that looks different from mine. I have individual plugs for each. Maybe your motherboard just has them spaced closer than mine.

Convention suggests that white would be the ground (negative) wires.  Worst case for the LED's you'll be trying to reverse bias a diode and they won't light up.  For the power switch, I'm fairly sure it won't turn the PC on if it's backwards so you'll know right away.

Exactly.  Trial and error...you won't permanently damage anything.

On most motherboards it doesn't matter which way you plug in the power switch. There isn't a plus or a negative per say.

 

You can power up your motherboard without the power switch. You just close the contact between both pins. You could use a screw driver or any flat metal. When the power comes on remove the short & you are up & running.

 

Didn't mean to be so long winded on this one. To make a long story short. You are just touching 2 wires together for a second to complete the circuit & the power supply comes on.
