December 13, 201015 yr What does this mean. I can export the disks and still see the data on it. SMART status of the disk is OK. Take a look at the troubleshooting link in my signature. We need to see a syslog before we can help much more. The reason you can still see the contents of the disk is because unRAID is simulating it by using the parity and other data drives.
December 14, 201015 yr What does this mean. I can export the disks and still see the data on it. SMART status of the disk is OK. It means the disk has failed... or more acurately, a "write" to it failed. You are seeing the RAID array in action. The reads and writes to that drive are being simulated by the parity disk in combination with all the other working disks. Can you get a current "smart" report on the drive? smartctl -d ata -a /dev/sdX where sdX = the three character device name for your disk. If you can, the "write" failure might just have been caused by a loose cable to the drive. Before you do anything, capture a syslog. (instructions under troubleshooting in the wiki) Whatever you do, do NOT press a button labeled as "restore" or set a new initial disk configuration or attempt to add or delete new disks until you get the failed drive back into service.
