Matt's unRAID build

Featured Replies

This is my first unRAID build.  I have been thinking of buying or building some kind of home NAS for a while but never got around to it.  Then I lost a 500GB drive with photos and videos, Thankfully I had them mostly backed up but it still was not a good situation.  Researching a network media streamer for my new 50" Plasma home theater setup I stumbled upon unRAID.  After reading about it for a good week or so, I started ordering parts.  I had the motherboard, CPU and RAM laying around, bought the case, powersupply and drives.

OS at time of building: unRAID 4.6

CPU: Pentium D 820

Motherboard: Intel DG965RY

RAM: 2x1GB PC5300 DDR2

Case: CoolerMaster 690 II Advanced

Power Supply: Corsair CX500

Parity Drive: 2TB WD20EARS

Data Drives: 2x 2TB WD20EARS

Cache Drive: None... yet.

Total Drive Capacity: 6TB

Primary Use: Streaming 1080p Bluray and TV rips to my PS3 for now, soon to be a standalone media player.  Storing personal photos/videos.

Likes: Ease of setup, hardware compatibility

Dislikes: None yet.

Add Ons Used: unMenu

Future Plans: Buy a Plus license, Add more 2TB data drives and setup a cache drive.

Wait a minute. Are those hard drives at the bottom in sideways?
