I have the same case and am using the stock fans, but converted them from 12v to 5v to really cut down the volume.

 

After reading your post earlier this morning, I thought I would try that.  The fans would not start. 

Are you talking about the stock ones?

 

All I did was take a normal 4 pin molex for fans and flipped all the wires. So the 2 fan writes switch sides. To be on the 5v half of the 4 pin molex if that makes sense

 

So not connected to the mobo like I think you were

No, I swapped the red and yellow wires on the stock fan and plugged it into the motherboard. 

That might be the issue,  I think you need the negative wires switched too.
