January 14, 201115 yr I was hoping that someone has a similar setup and could share their experience. I just noticed newegg.ca has the E3400 in stock once again and I'm tempted to pick it up. Between my unRAID server running 24/7 and my workstation (i7 920 & 2x Dell 2209wa monitors) that's on for at least 8 hours a day, my electricity bill has been getting out of hand. Need to cut back so I can spend my money on more TB's!
January 14, 201115 yr Should be more than enough processor. Most commercial NAS are running a striped RAID product along with a DLNA server and are only using an Atom processor, or less.
January 14, 201115 yr Author I'm not too experienced with commercial NAS solutions but I want to say that they can't handle transcoding, which is my only concern. I sold my E8400 that was in my HTPC, regretting that decision now, haha...

That's not surprising since it really doesn't take much CPU to run just a NAS. Since getting a C-200 I've put ps3mediaserver on the 'back burner'. Here's what's unfortunate: Sony has a chance with the PS3 to be the home media center if only they would support VC-1 via streaming, and do a minimum amount of work to implement a decent front-end.

That and support MKV and they would just dominate quite frankly. Oh well, back to my HTPC running XBMC
