Parity Creation, Drive With Errors

Recommended Posts

I just recently created a parity disk using my array that had data in it already. When the parity creation was finished it said everything was completed successfully but one drive had 2595 errors on completion. I ran an extended smart test after parity creation to verify their is nothing wrong with the disk and that came back as everything good. So I wanted to ask if I should try and RMA this drive before the warranty expires on it, or do you think the drive is okay to use. If the drive is okay to use what is the best way to fix the errors on the device, should I move the data to another disk in the array and remove the drive with the errors on it and run a preclear on it?

The drive in question is "WDC_WD100EMAZ-00WJTA0_2YH645AD-20200826-0358 disk2 (sdi)"

I am attaching my diagnostics file I have not rebooted the server since the parity creation or extended smart scan because I had seen in other threads more info could be found if it had not been restarted yet.

(Diagnostic removed for privacy reasons please request if needed again)

Just now, johnnie.black said:

SMART test passed and attributes look fine, though the previous errors are logged as actual disk errors, I would keep it for now but any more similar errors in the near future replace it.

You also need to run a correcting parity check since because of those errors parity won't be 100% correct.

Would you recommend me moving the data to another drive and zeroing this drive out?
