September 13, 200718 yr Greetings, I want to use a 2nd Flash drive (2-Pack Pro Rego) to check out a 4.2Beta version of unRAID. Currently I'm running 4.1 with 12 drives installed. Can I just switch between the two flash drives, or does the upgrade to 4.2 somehow change things on the drives so that 4.1 won't register properly when I plug it back in? Now my system is running great I don't really want to change anything that would mess with this.
September 14, 200718 yr Yes you can use your second Flash for this purpose. After making it bootable via syslinux, copy the new release to it, then copy the contents of your 'config' directory on the original Flash. The system should then boot with your configuration. As long as there is no disk change (e.g., adding disks, moving disks, etc), you should be able to swap between the two Flashes.

I'm off to get another flash...and then I'll catch you in an email.

I might be wrong, but I think you will also need to put the correct "key" file in the config folder after you copy it to the new flash drive from the old. This will be the other "key" sent to you by Tom when you purchased the two-pack of unRaid. If you do not, odds are you will not see more than 3 drives in the config menu. Joe L.

I was asking the question here to make sure it would work so I could tee up with Tom the 2nd helping of unRAID, as I've been a little slack getting a 2nd flash drive. Should find out once the 2nd key arrives
September 15, 200718 yr Author Okay...got the 2nd Pro key (thx Tom for the really prompt action there ) and did the required formats and things. I'm a little rusty cause it's been some time since I played with the system. Copied the required files across, powered down the box and re-booted. Nothing..... Started scratching the head. Did a little reading, then a big DOH!!! - forgot to volume the flash as UNRAID! So had another go, this time doing everything correctly (I think?) and I still have no joy. Decided I better verify the flash (Got the id from UVCView thingee) and reverted to the current 4.1 setup using the 2nd flash and key. Success!!! So have verified the drive and the key works using 4.1Pro and Key2. (The system did start a parity check with this 2nd flash. Is this normal? Does it hurt to stop the parity check?) I did stop it, plugged the original flash back in and it started up perfectly (no parity check this time). SO I'm back to square one. Where/What should I check to figure why 4.2Beta4 didn't boot? Thx. PS I'm somewhat nervous about playing with it for fear of stuffing something up :'(
